Job Title: Ultrasound Technologist
Perform sonographic imaging to produce images that will be interpreted to provide a diagnosis and/or treat patients. Functions as the first line interface with customers in the successful accomplishment of their sonographic imaging. Participates in CQI activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the care and well-being of patients during their sonographic examinations.
Responsible for obtaining and recording an accurate patient history.
Instructs, prepares and assists patients for their sonographic exam.
Selects appropriate equipment and techniques to produce high quality images.
Able to assess patient pain interfering with the imaging procedure – makes appropriate physician/provider contact for intervention.
Shall at all times work under the direction of a radiologist.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
Performs diagnostic exams on patients as ordered by a physician/provider.
Identifies normal and abnormal anatomy and customizes the exam accordingly.
Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, special needs, geriatric and general population.
Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer’s instruction.
Clearly marks images with patient name, date of birth and additional identifiers as appropriate.
Adheres to departmental imaging protocols.
Assists radiologist or physician/provider in performing procedures and/or biopsies.
Processes and critiques images to ensure high quality studies are obtained.
Practices medical and surgical aseptic techniques.
Provides an oral or written summary to the referring physician/provider, as requested.
Performs QA and QC and maintains accurate logs, as appropriate.
Completes all work prior to the end of each shift.
Have knowledge of hospital policies and the functions of other departments.
Takes call and holidays as scheduled.
Performs additional modalities as appropriate.
Professional Requirements:
Adheres to dress code standards, appearance is neat and clean.
Completes annual educational requirements.
Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and CMS regulations.
Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians/providers, departments and staff.
Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians/providers, staff, administration, patients and visitors.
Resolves personnel concerns at the departmental level, utilizing the grievance process a required.
Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding departmental operations, fire, safety and infection control.
Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
Consistently completes and maintains assigned duties.
Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized time system correctly.
Attends annual review and departmental inservices, as scheduled.
Attends staff meetings, reads all staff meeting minutes if absent from meeting.
Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
Communicates the mission, vision, core values, ethics and goals of the hospital.
Regulatory Requirements:
? High School graduate
? Graduate from an accredited Ultrasound School
? Registered by the ARDMS
? RVT is required
? One year of sonographic experience is preferred.
? ECHO experience is a plus
? Current BLS certification
? Knowledge and understanding of general anatomy, pathology, physiology and medical terminology
Language Skills:
? Ability to read and communicate effectively in English
? Additional languages preferred
