It’s evident that pay rates in the post-COVID era (can we confidently identify this as the current era?) are quite unstable, with a noticeable decline since the start of 2022.
According to pay data from Vivian Health, the average pay across all states in January of this year was $3,113 but that has dropped to $2,469 (which is more than a 20-percent drop) in April of 2022.
Missouri has seen the most drastic pay decreases, going from $2,945 down to $1,791 – a drop of 39.2%. Other states seeing more than a 30-percent drop since the start of the year are Wisconsin from $3,015 to $1,976 (34.5%); New Jersey from $3,712 to $2,552 (31.3%); and Oklahoma from $2,815 to $1,970 (30.1%).
All 50 states have lower pay in April than January. States that have had the most stable pay over the first four months of the year include Hawaii (2.2%), Louisiana (8.6%), Ohio (8.8%) and Oregon (9.4%).
